To meet our growing business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer, ideally with experience in Flood or Coastal Engineering.
The successful applicant will be based at our Leeds office, which are the headquarters of JBA Bentley, a joint venture between JBA Consulting (JBA) and civil engineering and construction company, JN Bentley (JBAB). Some projects will be purely a design commission run by JBA and some will be for design & construct run by the JBAB joint venture.
The successful candidate will lead technical design work on a range of civil and structural engineering projects within the flood defence, rail and built environment sector.
We are looking for candidates with sound technical knowledge and ability to manage design projects and also work pro-actively with the construction team on our design and build joint venture.
You will report to a Technical Director and will contribute to the delivery of a range of projects.

Your role

The candidate should be at chartered or near-chartered level. Candidates should have substantial and proven experience of UK consultancy work and/ or design and build experience.
Typical design requirements would include:
• Retaining walls, flood embankments, pumping stations, water-retaining structures, lock gates, tidal structures, pipe bridges, road & rail bridge assessments, foundation designs, steelwork design, temporary works assessments, masonry & stonework design & assessments.
• Design would be carried out using Eurocodes (essential) & occasionally British Standards (optional).
• BIM level 3 previous experience.
• Use of extranet sites.

Following successful appointment as the Water and Departmental Delivery Partner to the Department for Infrastructure (Northern Ireland), both Amey & JBA Consulting are looking to enhance and grow our collaborative delivery team based in Belfast, we would also welcome applications to be based in Northern Ireland, working alongside Department for Infrastructure and Amey.

The team member we’re looking for

The candidate must be a self-starter and capable of working without supervision to a high technical standard. Knowledge of relevant design codes and software packages is essential as you will be required to generate, check and review engineering calculations within a wide variety of projects. Excellent teamworking and effective communication skills are required, working with staff across a range of offices as well as the core team based in Leeds & Peterborough.

Qualifications

For this role, professional membership of a recognised professional institution such as the ICE or IStructE is preferred and a degree (or equivalent) in civil and or structural engineering is essential.

The candidate must be a self-starter and capable of working without supervision to a high technical standard. Knowledge of relevant design codes and software packages is essential as you will be required to generate, check and review engineering calculations within a wide variety of projects.

Desirable attributes for the role

Preferred experience but not essential includes:
• Use of Autocad (2D & 3D) & Revit.
• Previous experience of working with Environment Agency, Network Rail & Coal Authority.
