The Climate and Sustainability team are looking for a new member of the team to be based either in the Saltaire office or at another JBA office with occasional to travel to Saltaire. As a team we work across several disciplines both as individuals and as a team: decarbonisation, climate change adaptation and resilience, natural capital and ecosystem services, catchment resilience, and social value. The successful candidate will be an individual with background, experience, and interest in tackling the climate crisis and building societal resilience to climate change.

Your role

The ideal candidate would have experience in developing and communicating net zero and decarbonisation strategies and plans and undertaking carbon calculations for infrastructure and other projects.

This role also includes the capacity and the interest in expanding our services, identifying new areas of work and developing innovative methodologies. Enthusiasm and drive are essential, with the candidate being expected to contribute to the wider objectives across the Environment and Sustainability service.

Key tasks include:
• Developing decarbonisation strategies to reach net zero with supporting implementation plans.
• Contributing to wider sustainability and environment projects such as climate change plans.
• Project and contract management in a client facing capacity, including the preparation of tenders.
• Contributing to best practice and identifying and sharing emerging practice and science.
• Production of technical reports and presentations.

The team member we’re looking for

The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously across interrelated disciplines, building a network across the wider business to help them develop novel yet robust responses to opportunities. They will be naturally collaborative in how they work and able to delegate tasks to junior colleagues to promote staff development and provide project efficiencies

Qualifications

Bachelors and/or Masters degrees (or equivalent) in relevant subjects e.g. sustainability consultancy, environmental science, carbon management and accounting.

Chartered status (e.g. IEMA, CIWEM) is important to JBA and valued by our clients. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their commitment towards becoming Chartered with an appropriate professional body.

Essential attributes for the role

• Experience of using carbon conversion factors.
• Good stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills.
• Understanding of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.
• Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Inclined to teamwork and collaborative working approach.

Desirable attributes for the role

• Understanding of the applicability of UN Sustainable Development Goals.
• Active interest in resource use and circular economy principles.
• Membership of IEMA, or similar.

The role will be located in our historic Saltaire office, which can be found within Salts Mill a UNESCO world heritage site situated just four miles north of Bradford. This one-of-a-kind work setting embraces Saltaire’s industrial past, boasts excellent transport links to and from the nearby cities of Leeds and Bradford and includes ample free parking and bike storage facilities. As well as being home to modern office facilities, the former textile mill is now also a hub for shops, cafés, restaurants, and galleries.
