Your role
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Engineering software solutions – working with prototypes and proof of concepts through to developing fully functioning applications.
• Producing rich front-end UI and efficient services with technologies like .NET Core and Angular.
• Building back-end services using technologies like .NET Core, Entity Framework, NHibernate, Dapper, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Docker.
• Perform unit and integration testing.
• Manage development tasks using Microsoft Azure DevOps.
• Engage in projects that are generally ‘domain technical’ in nature, primarily focusing on flood risk management, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure, for scientific or engineering organisations.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of software development processes and methodologies.
• Mentoring and supporting earlier career software developers as needed.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organised, and driven, with a strong ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You should have excellent analytical and effective communication skills, with a proven ability to translate and implement complex requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants will have:
• A degree (or equivalent) in IT or a related field.
• Proven experience as a software developer, with a strong track record in .NET.

You will be a software developer who
• Has the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
• Has strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
• Enjoys the challenge of building novel software solutions.
• Wants to work across a range of tech environments and you're keen to learn new technologies and languages.
• Is comfortable operating in an Agile environment with a good working knowledge in areas such as CI/CD, build pipelines, testing and architecture.
• Strong expertise in developing systems using SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
• Industry experience in cloud-first development in AWS or Azure.
• Strong practical experience in good software development practices such as SOLID principles.
Desirable attributes for the role
Other desirable attributes for the role include:
• AWS certified solution architect associate or above.
• Event driven distributed software development.
• Interfacing with third-party APIs .
• Frontend technologies such as TypeScript, React, Angular, and SAAS.
• Experience with Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

The role will be located in our Peterborough office, which can be found on the first floor of the purpose-built West Point building.
