The Role
The Climate and Sustainability team are looking for a new member of the team based either in the Saltaire, Edinburgh, or Haywards Heath offices or at another JBA office with occasional travel to the aforementioned offices. As a team we work across several disciplines both as individuals and as a team: natural capital and ecosystem services, catchment resilience, nature-based solutions, decarbonisation, climate change adaptation and resilience, and social value.

Your role
You will be commercially aware, coordinating and managing the delivery of a diverse range of natural capital and ecosystem services projects for a range of clients. You will work with colleagues including analysts, engineers and policy specialists and support early career colleagues in their professional and technical development. You will have the opportunity to develop new business and help shape JBA’s natural capital and ecosystems services strategy using your background knowledge and contacts.
Key tasks include:
- Act as an internal and external specialist to provide technical guidance in the field of natural capital
- Use your technical knowledge to both lead and input to projects to understand the baseline and future risks/opportunities to natural assets and ecosystem services
- Preparation of tenders and opportunities for business development including developing current opportunities, new clients or sectors across the UK
- Contribute to the management of client relationships
- Keep up to date with and use tools and best practice techniques to assess natural capital and ecosystem services and contribute to the promotion of our abilities to use and undertake these services
- Input into the development of new tools to assist with the quantification and visualisation of environmental impacts
- Staff mentoring and professional development, sharing of knowledge, best practice and innovation.
The team member we’re looking for
The successful candidate will have a positive and professional attitude and be naturally collaborative in how they work. The role will be client-facing, and the successful candidate will need to be confident in working with clients to ensure successful project delivery. You must be used to working in a team, have excellent interpersonal skills and be an effective verbal and written communicator.
It is expected that the role will involve a significant degree of cross office working. JBA supports agile working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work, however it is important to us that you attend the office on a regular basis.
The role will preferably be based at our Saltaire, Haywards Heath or Edinburgh offices, but other offices may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Qualifications
- Bachelors and/or Masters degrees (or equivalent) in a relevant subject e.g. sustainability, environmental science, geography, carbon management, economics or green finance.
- Chartered status (e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM) is important to JBA and valued by our clients. Applicants should be Chartered or be able to demonstrate their commitment towards becoming Chartered with an appropriate professional body.
Essential attributes for the role
- Experience in and track record in project management and technical leadership of projects
- Strong commercial and client focus with a record of forging strong client links
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to deliver clear reports and confidence in presenting proposal/project findings to influence relevant parties
- Ability to develop and manage effective relationships and partnerships internally and externally with a track record of working collaboratively.
Desirable attributes for the role
- Holds an industry recognised professional chartered qualification.
- Focus and experience of achieving and delivering technical excellence for clients.
