We are seeking an enthusiastic and technically well-rounded Engineer to play a leading role in supporting our growth. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the railway sector and the consultancy environment. They will be used to working collaboratively with clients and contractors to aid in the delivery of design & build projects and will have a good understanding of Network Rail codes and standards as well as Eurocodes and structural design principles. Knowledge of scour design and procedures based on guidance within CIRIA Manual on scour and bridges and other hydraulic structures is also advantageous.

Your role
With our extensive experience working with Network Rail and their wider supply chain we will support you in growing and diversifying our rail portfolio. You will work closely with our Directors and Head of Engineering to deliver success and develop your career in our award-winning environment.
You will take a lead role in technical governance to support project managers in delivery of railway sector engineering projects based across multiple JBA offices. Although project and team management will take place across multiple offices, you will be based predominantly in either our Leeds or York office with the opportunity for agile working.
You will use your engineering experience within the railway sector to engage, collaborate and lead in-house technical specialists (including Environment, MEICA, Structures & Geotechnics) to deliver project success. Your governance will ensure appropriate stakeholders are actively involved, issues that may affect project success are identified early, risk management is proactive, and project managers and engineers are supported to make timely and effective decisions. You will undertake technical assurance of project outputs, ensuring deliverables reach the required standard.
You will be expected to take the lead in client liaison, preparation of quotations, sign off of design decisions and checking calculations. You will also act as a mentor to and supervise junior staff. There is the potential to lead a team in this role.
You should be a self-starter, effective communicator and capable of working without supervision to a high standard.
The team member we’re looking for

Qualifications
The successful candidate should be capable of being appointed as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (Designer) and ideally have held this position elsewhere. As a result we would require you to have membership of a recognised professional institution such as the ICE or IStructE. Please note, candidates showing substantial experience and progress with their professional membership may be considered.
A degree (or equivalent) in civil and / or structural engineering is required.
Essential attributes for the role
• Proven experience of delivering civil engineering aspects of railway design within either consultancy and / or contracting environments.
• Good awareness of CDM Regulations.
• Good working knowledge of Network Rail standards and business processes.
• Knowledge of relevant Eurocode and British design standards and software packages to generate, check and review engineering calculations. For example, but not limited to:
o Reinforced concrete design
o Geotechnical structure design (e.g. – gravity/retaining walls, sheet piles, earthwork embankment design or re-grades etc)
o Highway and railway loading calculations for culvert designs to BS 9295 structural design of buried pipes
• Review, checking and approval experience of both outline and detailed design drawings and documentation to Network Rail standards.
• A valid UK driving license is required.

• Experience of working in an Office 365 environment, including the use of SharePoint
• Previous experience of undertaking contractor’s responsible engineering roles
• Previous (or current) Personal Track Safety (PTS) card holder.
• Knowledge of scour design and procedures based on guidance within CIRIA Manual on scour and bridges and other hydraulic structures.
